The primary goal and focus of this secondary school dance program may be summed up in a single overall objective :

To enable the pupil TO EXPERIENCE dance as a means of artistic expression and communication adapted to his own personality.

In order to achieve this objective, the teaching of dance should :

improve the pupil’s perception of himself and his surroundings, as well as his ability to express this perception through dance;
encourage the execution of easy, harmonious dance movements;
enable the pupil to become more receptive to non-verbal communication;
develop the pupil’s awareness of the psycho-social aspect of dance as an instrument of self-knowledge and a means of understanding his own culture as well as that of others.
