Physical education is a discipline which seeks to develop the person in all its dimensions : "physical, intellectual, and emotional. It has a social dimension."
The content of the Physical Education program, based on the study of body movement in physical activities (means used), leads the pupil into a world in which he deepens his awareness of his ability to act, and channels all his motor, cognitive, and affective resources to master movement. Physical education is therefore directly involved with the development of a self that acts, reaches out, and goes beyond itself through action. It is this which constitutes the overall objective of this program.
The different types of activities in the Physical Education program (free, spontaneous and creative interaction, competition, cooperation, expression, and so on) enable the pupil to experience a variety of relationships with others. Exposed to different situations, he will be called upon to develop behaviour patterns and attitudes adapted to the individual circumstances of each situation experienced. Physical education immerses the child in a social world and encourages him to develop the necessary skills (sense of belonging, team spirit, ability to work with a team, sense of responsibility, decision making, and so on) to participate actively in the life of his community.
